Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scored in stoppage time as Barcelona came from two goals down to beat Atletico Madrid in a thrilling match and move to the top of La Liga.
Barcelona knew before the game that a win would take them ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference. Atletico, on the other hand, would have moved above Barca into second place if they had won.
Atletico seemed ready to bounce back after their Champions League exit on penalties to rivals Real Madrid. They were leading 2-0 with just 20 minutes left to play.
Julian Alvarez, who missed a penalty in Wednesday’s shootout defeat, gave Atletico the lead right before half-time, turning in Giuliano Simeone’s cross. Alexander Sorloth made it 2-0 in the 70th minute, finishing calmly after being set up by Conor Gallagher.
But Barcelona fought back quickly. Robert Lewandowski fired in a brilliant goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1. Then, six minutes later, Ferran Torres headed home an equaliser from Raphinha’s cross.
Sorloth had a big chance to win it for Atletico late on, but he shot wide and was possibly offside.
Barca took advantage. In the second minute of added time, Lamine Yamal curled in a shot that deflected past the goalkeeper to give Barcelona the lead. Torres then sealed the victory with a low strike just before the final whistle.
Barcelona are now level with Real Madrid on 60 points and have a game in hand. Atletico stay in third place, four points behind the top two.
