Following draws for the 2022/2023 season, the Nigeria National League board elected the FC ONE Rockets Vs Warri Wolves match to serve as the official opening game for the new season.
The match will take place at the 18-000 capacity Eket Stadium in Akwa Ibom State Nigeria.
Kick-off is 4pm on Saturday March 4, 2023.
COACHESÂ
Hosts FC ONE Rockets have welcomed Coach Ndubuisi Ndah for a second spell at the club.
A member of the Atalanta 1996 Gold medal winning Eagles, Ndah was in charge when the Indomitables made their Nigeria National League bow in the 2020/2021 season.
For Warri Wolves FC, former Akwa United FC Assistant Coach Jolomi Atune was appointed Head Coach in October 2022 with a mandate to return the Wolves to the top-flight.
A familiar territory for home-boy Jolomi who had previously worked with the club as assistant coach.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT THE MATCHÂ
Ahead of the NNL opening game, managers and players of both clubs have spoken highly of their desire to begin the campaign with victory.
In his Post match interview with the FC ONE Rockets media unit, Coach Ndubuisi Ndah expressed his happiness over the opportunity to take charge of the Rockets again while stating his sides targets ahead of Saturday’s game.
“For me, coming back was a joyful one. I appreciated it and I felt that I was honoured to come back here and to be given the privilege to work again like I worked in the first year that I was here. I am very happy coming back.”
The boys have been very cooperative and we are ready for the game…I believe that we can really get our result if we put our act together”.
“Fantastic pitch to play…and I believe that if know how to play football, you can play very well there… If you are a lover of good football and you like playing watching football, the Eket Stadium is one of the best places to come and watch football…
“I believe we can give good football to our admirers and supporters.” Ndah concluded.
On his part, Warri Wolves FC captain Olisema Ekene declared their readiness to go all out for a positive result in Eket.
“There is a burning desire in us to explore and get the best for the season and it starts even with our first match, ” Ekene told the club media.
“We are determined as a team and the spirit is high, so the sky is a stepping stone here”
“We are not underrating our opponents in anyway. They are familiar foe.”
It is the first game of the NNL season but not the first game between FC ONE Rockers and Warri Wolves. Their last meeting ended in a 1-1 draw in Delta State last season.
