Federation Cup: Liman Ahmadu fires Akwa United past Wikki Tourist into Round of 32
Liman Ahmadu scored the only goal to lead Akwa United past Wikki Tourist in the Nigeria Federation Cup Round of 64 clash decided on Thursday April 27.
Akwa United FC and Wikki Tourists FC started the game at the UNEC Stadium, Enugu targeting a round of 32 spot in the 2023 FA Cup but it was the Promise Keepers who created the best openings early in the game.
27 minutes into the match, former Niger Tornadoes attacking midfielder Liman Ahmadu was at the right place to score the winning goal for Akwa United FC.
Abbey Benson`s goal-bound effort was cleared off the line but it fell graciously before Liman who made no mistake stabbing home to give his team the lead.
The goal sparked brilliant attacking moves from Wikki Tourist but there was no way past the Anthony Anosike marshalled defence line.
In the 39th minute, Akwa United striker Uche Collins dutifully beat his marker but his shot was saved by the Wikki Tourist goalie.
First half ended 1-0 in favour of two-time Federation cup winners Akwa United FC.
The second half failed to produce any goal as both teams cancelled each others attempt.
At the expiration of regulation time, Liman Ahmadu`s goal was the difference as it finished Akwa United FC 1-0 Wikki Tourist FC.
Akwa United FC will now join 32 others in the next round of the 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup.
