Federer keeps Royals´ final hopes alive
Roger Federer kept the UAE Royals in the hunt for a final place at the International Premier Tennis League with a strong performance against the Singapore Slammers on Friday.
The legendary Swiss won the final two sets of the day for the Royals as they edged out the Slammers 27-23.
After losing the mixed doubles alongside Kristina Mladenovic, Federer partnered Daniel Nestor to a men’s doubles win over Stan Wawrinka and Marcelo Melo, before taking the singles.
Federer saved break points against compatriot Wawrinka before edging ahead late on to complete a 6-4 triumph.
Meanwhile, the Japan Warriors claimed their second win of the competition as they beat the Philippine Mavericks 29-15, Kurumi Nara thrashing Jarmila Gajdosova 6-1 in the process.
