FIFA Anounces New CHEAP Ticket Option for 2026 World Cup
FIFA has announced a small number of cheaper tickets for the 2026 World Cup after criticism over high prices.
The new tickets will cost $60 (ÂŁ45) and will be available for all 104 matches at the tournament. FIFA said the tickets are aimed at a limited number of loyal fans from countries that have qualified for the World Cup.
A FIFA official said the decision was made after listening to feedback and that everyone involved agreed it was the right move.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the change but said FIFA should do more to keep tickets affordable so real supporters are not priced out of the game.
Under the original prices, supporters’ groups said it could have cost more than £5,000 for a fan to follow England all the way to the final.
The £45 tickets will be in the lowest price category and will make up 10% of each country’s ticket allocation. For England and Scotland, this means around 400 tickets at this price for each of their group matches.
However, supporters’ groups were not fully satisfied. The Football Supporters’ Association said the move did not go far enough and accused FIFA of still charging fans too much. Football Supporters Europe also said the changes were welcome but did not fully solve the problem.
Discussions about ticket prices took place recently in Doha, where concerns were raised with senior FIFA officials. The English FA believes the decision is a step in the right direction.
FIFA said national football associations will decide how the cheaper tickets are given out and must make sure they go to loyal fans. Overall, half of each country’s tickets will now be in the two cheapest price categories, with the rest split between higher-priced options.
