FIFA Opens Disciplinary Case Against Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan
FIFA has opened a disciplinary case against Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan following the Pharaohs’ 2026 FIFA World Cup clash against Argentina.
Hassan is being investigated over a number of statements he made before and after the match. FIFA is looking into whether his comments broke its disciplinary rules.
One of the issues being examined is Hassan’s public support for Palestine and his claims that Argentina received favourable treatment because of Lionel Messi’s status, commercial interests and the team’s position as world champions.
The Egypt coach also alleged that his team was deliberately treated unfairly during the tournament. He suggested that both external and internal factors had influenced the outcome of the match.
Hassan reportedly went further by saying there was “no justice” in the tournament and questioning whether the match had been played in line with FIFA’s principles of fair play and respect.
FIFA has made the disciplinary case file and investigative report available through its Legal Portal. The matter is now awaiting a formal decision from the relevant disciplinary body.
The outcome could determine whether Hassan faces a sanction over his comments surrounding the Argentina-Egypt encounter.
