Finally! Nigerian-born striker joins Manchester United

Nigerian-born striker Chido Obi-Martin has made a high-profile move from Arsenal to Manchester United, marking a significant step in his burgeoning career.

After months of negotiations over pay, the 16-year-old signed a contract with United on October 4, 2024, officially becoming a Red Devil.

Obi’s departure from Arsenal came after he declined to extend his contract, which expired, making him a sought-after talent among clubs across England and Europe. In his farewell message, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far. Very happy to sign with this amazing club. Time to focus and achieve all my dreams. @manchesterunited ⚪️”

The young forward, who is set to turn 17 next month, will be competing with Danish striker Rasmus Højlund for the starting striker position at United. This competition will provide an exciting opportunity for Obi to showcase his skills at a higher level.

At Arsenal, Obi established himself as a prolific goal scorer at the youth level, making headlines for his impressive performances. Notably, he scored an astonishing 10 goals in a single match for the Under-16 team in a 14-3 victory over Liverpool in October 2023. He also netted seven goals in a 9-0 win against Norwich while playing for the U18s.

Overall, Obi-Martin’s move to Manchester United signifies the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and could pave the way for a promising career in professional football.
