Finidi George reveals his only regret from playing days
Following his appointment as Super Eagles head coach, ex-international, Finidi George is currently on a media tour of broadcast firms.
In his engagement with Brila FM, Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, has opened up about his only regret from his illustrious playing career: not signing for Real Madrid.
Finidi, who eventually signed for Real Madrid’s La Liga rivals Real Betis after leaving Ajax, was close to joining the Spanish giants but the transfer did not materialize.
“My only regret is not signing for Real Madrid. The Real Madrid you know now is different from 25 years ago. They were struggling with money and couldn’t reach an agreement with Ajax. I had already agreed on personal terms with Madrid and spoken with Coach Capello. I had a pre-contract, but Real Madrid and Ajax couldn’t agree on the transfer fee,” Finidi said on Brila FM.
Despite this missed opportunity, Finidi enjoyed a successful career at Ajax and Real Betis, and he remains a revered figure in Nigerian football.
Finidi George will begin his reign as Super Eagles coach on June 7 when Nigeria face South Africa in Uyo.
