Finidi George reveals what Super Eagles must do to South Africa and Benin Republic

Finidi George will take charge of his first set of games as head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria when they face South Africa and Benin Republic in June 2024.

Ahead of both games, Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, has stressed the importance of securing victories against South Africa and Benin Republic in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in June.

The Super Eagles are currently winless in Group C, having drawn their first two matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

As the team prepares for a crucial doubleheader against the Bafana Bafana and the Squirrels next month, the need for maximum points is paramount to improve their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals.

Finidi George acknowledged the team’s current predicament and the pressure to perform. “Yeah, these games are really important because we know where we stand at the moment. It’s not a good position, to be honest; we should be honest with ourselves,” Finidi told Arise TV.

The Super Eagles must not drop any more points if they are to stay in contention for a spot at the World Cup. Finidi highlighted the significance of the upcoming matches and the urgency to deliver strong performances. “Where we are at the moment gives us more pressure because these games are must-win games. I’m not saying we will win the game, but I’m saying they are must-win games because we don’t know what’s going to happen, but it all boils down to us as a team because we know what is at hand and then we know we have to get as much as we can in these two games just to go up there.”

With the stakes high and the pressure mounting, the Super Eagles are focused on securing vital points to enhance their qualification hopes.
