Finidi George set to quit Enyimba, Yemi bids farewell
Following his appointment as Nigeria national team head coach, Finidi George is set to step down from his position as the Head Coach of NPFL champions, Enyimba.
Having joined the People’s Elephant in September 2021 on a two-year contract, Finidi replaced Fatai Osho, whose contract ended at the end of August 2021.
Under Finidi’s leadership, Enyimba clinched the Nigerian Premier Football League title in his second season and are in the Premier League title race this season.
According to multiple sources, Finidi George has opted to resign from his role at Enyimba to fully concentrate on his new responsibilities as the head coach of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
In his absence, his assistant coach, Olanrewaju Yemi (Yema), is expected to assume control of the People’s Elephant for the remainder of the season.
Enyimba are expected to issue a formal statement regarding Finidi’s departure soon.
OLANREWAJU YEMI SAYS GOODBYE
Enyimba assistant coach Olanrewaju Yemi has expressed gratitude for his fruitful collaboration with the departing head coach, Finidi George.
Following Finidi’s appointment as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, the 53-year-old is set to depart from his role at the two-time African champions, Enyimba.
In a farewell message to Finidi, Olanrewaju acknowledged the enjoyable and inspiring experience of working together for the past two years. He extended his best wishes to Finidi for his new role with the Super Eagles.
“Working with you for the past two years has been fun and inspiring,” Olarewaju wrote in his farewell message to Finidi George.
“Thank you for all you do, boss. I wish you the very best with @NGSuperEagles.”
As Finidi George transitions to his new assignment, Olanrewaju is anticipated to assume leadership of Enyimba for the remainder of the season.
