Flamingos’ coaching crew re-appointed after historic FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup performance

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has given its approval for the re-appointment of the technical crew of the U-17 Women’s National team, Flamingos.

Led by Coach Bankole Olowookere, the coaching staff played a crucial part in guiding the Nigeria U-17 girls team to a first-ever podium finish at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India in 2022.

The decision to re-appoint the coaching crew was based on the recommendation made by the NFF Technical and Development Committee, subsequently receiving the approval of the Executive Committee.

Flamingos, under the guidance of Coach Olowookere, showcased a remarkable performance at the last U-17 Women’s World Cup.

After successfully navigating through the group stage, they secured a historic victory over the United States of America in the quarter-finals, advancing after a penalty shootout.

Aside clinching bronze at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the Flamingos entertained with their dance goal celebrations.

Despite a loss to Colombia in the semi-finals, the team demonstrated resilience by securing a 3-3 draw against Germany in the third-place match and clinching the bronze medals in another penalty shootout.

The re-appointed coaching staff includes Coach Bankole Olowookere as Head Coach, Adanna Nwaneri as Assistant Coach, Morufu Adeyemo as Assistant Coach, and Abubakar Ndanusa as Goalkeepers’ Coach.

The Flamingos will begin their journey to qualify for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, starting with an away game against the Central African Republic.

The first leg is scheduled for Bangui on the weekend of February 2nd – 4th, with the return leg taking place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, February 10th.
