Flamingos Set Sights on 2026 U17 Women’s World Cup with Second Round Entry

Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will start their campaign for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup at the second round of African qualifiers. The team will face the winner of the preliminary round clash between Niger Republic and Guinea.

The first leg of the second round is scheduled for 22nd – 24th May, with the return leg set for 29th – 31st May. The team that wins on aggregate will progress to the final qualifying round, where the first legs are slated for 3rd – 5th July and the return legs for 10th – 12th July.

Teams that succeed through the qualifiers will earn a spot at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco in October. Nigeria, one of Africa’s most consistent performers at U17 level, will aim to bounce back strongly after a disappointing last outing.
