Flying Eagles aim for AFCON spot with Semi-Final clash against Niger Republic
The Nigeria U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, will face Niger Republic in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Togo as they aim to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zuberu believes his team will deliver a better performance in the semi-finals. After a shaky start, Nigeria lost their opening match to Burkina Faso but bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire, securing the top spot in Group B and advancing to the semi-finals.
Speaking about the team’s struggles, Zuberu told Brila FM, “The first game at any tournament is always difficult. Players tend to get nervous, but there was improvement in the second match.”
The coach expressed optimism about the team’s progress, assuring fans that they will see a stronger Flying Eagles side in the upcoming match against Niger Republic. “In the semi-finals, we will see a better Nigerian team,” Zuberu said confidently.
A victory in the semi-final will not only take the Flying Eagles to the final but also secure their place at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which serves as a qualifier for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
With the stakes high, the Flying Eagles are determined to overcome Niger Republic and continue their journey toward continental and global success.
