Flying WAFU B Championship Start for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles. Defeat Ghana 2-0
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles on Sunday evening defeated their Ghanaian counterparts 2-0 in the opening Group B Match of the WAFU B U20 Championship in Niamey.
The Ladan Bosso tutored lads have a foot in the semi finals of the competition from where the zone’s flagbearers to next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations will emerge.
Ibrahim Muhammad scored the opening goal after only 6 minutes. The flying Eagles were composed , confident and calm as they dominated the Black Satellites.
Adams Olubi could have made it 2-0 for Nigeria towards the end of the first half but fluffed his lines after a good team move had carved open the Ghanaian rearguard and left him with the only the goalkeeper to beat.
The Flying Eagles eventually made sealed the win in 78th minute when substitute Ahmed Abdullahi scored the second goal of the match.
Ibrahim Muhammad was named Player of the match .
The Flying Eagles will play their last match of the group phase on Wednesday against Burkina Faso.
Ghana are the reigning African champions Ghana at this level and would have to win against Burkina Faso when both teams face-off at the same venue on Sunday next week.
