Former Super Eagles Star Shola Ameobi Appointed Newcastle Head of Corporate Affairs

Former Super Eagles striker Shola Ameobi has been named Newcastle United’s new Head of Corporate Affairs, taking another major step in his career away from the pitch.

Ameobi moves into the newly created executive role after spending the last seven years as the club’s Loans Coordinator, where he was responsible for overseeing the development of players sent out on loan.

His appointment is seen as a reward for his steady progress behind the scenes, with his academic studies and professional development helping prepare him for the senior position.

The former Nigeria international is also part of the first group in the Premier League’s Player-to-Executive Pathways Scheme, which supports former footballers as they move into leadership and executive roles within the game.

Speaking about his new role, Ameobi said he hopes to see more Black former players take up executive positions in football, stressing the need to create more opportunities for ex-professionals to remain involved in the sport after retirement.

Ameobi spent most of his playing career at Newcastle United before later featuring for other clubs. He also represented Nigeria at international level with the Super Eagles.

His latest appointment highlights the growing number of former players taking up key leadership roles in football administration.
