Frank Onyeka suffers racial abuse after Brentford win over Chelsea

Nigerian midfielder, Frank Onyeka has reported an online racist comment against him after his involvement In Brentford FC 0-2 win at Chelsea FC over the weekend.

Onyeka was subbed on in the 63rd minute as coach Thomas Frank looked to shore-up his midfield, a task the former Midtjylland delivered effectively to help the Bees secure a third consecutive win at Stamford Bridge following goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbuemo.

After what was a happy moment for Frank Onyeka and his teammates , the Nigerian International shared a racist message he got on his social media page after the game on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

A perceived opposition fan who was annoyed by his contribution to Brentford’s win, called him a ‘monkey wanker’, a common derogatory phrase used on black skinned men.

In swift reaction, Brentford FC released a statement backing their man.

” Last night another incidence of disgusting, racist abuse was directed towards one of our players, this time Frank Onyeka, on social media.

” It is hugely disappointing that one of our players has had to deal with this yet again, ” Brentford FC wrote on it’s official website on Sunday, October 29.

The club added ” This week the Online Safety Bill was passed – we hope that its implementation will make social media safer and that it will support our efforts to hold these cowards and the social media companies themselves to account.

“Frank has our full support at this time as we instigate our investigations with the authorities.”

In a related development, the English Premier League have also via a tweet condemned the action, reiterating that they have no place for racism.
