Frank Uwumiro’s goal secures victory for Rangers International in CAF Champions League
Frank Uwumiro’s 22nd-minute strike secured a crucial 1-0 victory for Rangers International against US Zilimadjou in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.
The match, played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, saw the reigning NPFL champions dominate their Comoros Island opponents. Uwumiro’s early goal gave the Flying Antelopes the lead, which they maintained through a strong first-half performance.
Interestingly, US Zilimadjou chose the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as the venue for their “home” leg. The Nigerian champions will host the return leg at the same stadium on Friday, August 23, 2024.
With this victory, Rangers International takes a slim but vital advantage into the second leg, aiming to secure their spot in the next round of the CAF Champions League.
