Frank Warren Tells Anthony Joshua: Take Your Time, Big Fights Are Waiting

Anthony Joshua has been advised not to rush back from injury, with boxing promoter Frank Warren saying the former world champion can take his time because major fights will be waiting for him.

Joshua has not fought since his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently confirmed that Joshua needs eight weeks to recover from a minor injury picked up during training.

There had been talk of a massive fight with Tyson Fury, but Fury is now retired. A rematch with Dubois is also unlikely anytime soon, as Dubois is preparing for an undisputed world title fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

Despite this, Warren—who promotes both Fury and Dubois—says Joshua still has plenty of options.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Warren said, “There’s no need for Anthony to rush. He’s done everything in the sport. The opportunities will come, and he can walk straight into a big fight when he’s ready.”

Warren added, “I understand he’s had a bit of a setback with an injury, but it’s nothing serious. There’s no pressure. Most of the top heavyweights are with us, and the door is wide open for him.”

Warren believes Joshua will have full support from his team no matter what he decides to do next. “He’ll make up his own mind in his own time, and his people will back him 100 per cent,” Warren said.

Warren also works with several heavyweight contenders, including Joseph Parker (the WBO interim champion), Agit Kabayel (the WBC interim champion), and Fabio Wardley, who is preparing for a WBA title fight.

With Usyk saying he may retire after two more fights, Warren believes there could be big opportunities ahead for Joshua. However, at 35 years old, some have questioned how much longer Joshua will stay in the sport.

“That’s up to him,” Warren said when asked about Joshua’s future. “He’s been a fantastic ambassador for British boxing. He’s a two-time world champion and has filled out huge venues. He was riding high again after three good wins before he faced Daniel Dubois.”

Warren’s message is clear: Joshua has nothing more to prove, but if he wants to fight again, the big nights will be there.
