Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk backs Osimhen despite goal drought
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has expressed confidence in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, despite his slow start in front of goal since joining the Turkish giants on loan from Napoli. Osimhen has yet to score in his first three appearances for the club but has already made his presence felt with three assists in as many matches.
Buruk refused to criticise the Super Eagles forward for his lack of goals, instead highlighting the Nigerian’s all-around contribution to the team’s success.
“Victor Osimhen’s game is very important,” Buruk told PlaySpor. “Not everything is about scoring goals because you score goals but you lose the game. When he sees the net, he passes the ball to the closest player, he is not only focused on scoring goals.”
Osimhen, renowned for his scoring ability during his time at Napoli, has taken a more selfless approach in his new environment. His vision and teamwork have played a crucial role in Galatasaray’s attacking play, despite the personal frustration of not finding the net.
The Nigerian striker remains confident that his goal-scoring touch will return soon. Speaking after Galatasaray’s last match, Osimhen remained optimistic. “Unfortunately, it was an own goal again,” he said to the club’s official website. “I feel it, my goal is very close. The most important thing is for Galatasaray to win.”
Galatasaray, currently pushing for domestic success, will face Kasimpasa this weekend in their next league fixture, with fans hopeful that Osimhen can break his goal-scoring duck and continue to contribute to the team’s overall performance.
