Galatasaray Step Up Efforts to Sign Victor Osimhen Permanently
Galatasaray are pushing hard to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal, as Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United appear to have cooled their interest.
The Turkish champions are eager to secure Osimhen’s services after his outstanding performances since arriving in Istanbul. The 26-year-old has impressed with goals in key matches, including an away fixture against rivals Fenerbahçe and a crucial Turkish Cup semi-final tie against Konyaspor.
Osimhen has quickly become a fan favourite at Galatasaray, not just for his goals but for his humble attitude and connection with supporters. After the Konyaspor game, he was seen engaging warmly with fans and even promised a jersey to a disabled supporter.
With the season nearing its end, Galatasaray officials are moving swiftly. According to Hurriyet, the club has invited Osimhen for a formal meeting to discuss a long-term deal. They are prepared to offer a record €10 million annual salary and pay a significant transfer fee to meet his €75 million release clause from Napoli, where his contract runs until 2026.
This determined move comes at a time when Manchester United and Arsenal appear to be focusing elsewhere. Transfer expert David Ornstein told NBC Sports that Manchester United are prioritising a number 10 and are now targeting Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Arsenal, meanwhile, are more likely to go after Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres or RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with Osimhen no longer seen as a priority.
This may be disappointing for Osimhen, who has long expressed a desire to play in the Premier League. Talks with Chelsea last summer broke down due to personal terms, and the Super Eagles star was believed to still be open to a move to England.
Despite this, Galatasaray remain hopeful. Osimhen has scored 30 goals and provided 7 assists in 35 appearances this season, helping the team close in on a domestic league and cup double. His performances and influence off the pitch have made him a top target for the Turkish giants.
Although interest still exists from clubs in Spain and Italy – including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus – Galatasaray’s clear intent and financial backing could give them an edge in the race for the Nigerian star.
For now, the ball is in Osimhen’s court.
