Garba Lawal warns Super Eagles against complacency vs Sierra Leone
Ex-International Garba Lawal has warned the Super Eagles of Nigeria against complacency when they file out against Sierra Leone in a 2023 AFCON qualifier on June 18.
Sierra Leone will need to beat the Eagles in Monrovia to delay until the final day Nigeria’s ticket at to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be hosted by Ivory Coast.
In a chat with BRILA, Lawal said Coach Jose Peseiro and his boys must not underrate the John Keister tutored Leone stars and do everything possible to get the victory.
Lawal said “In football, what matters is the victory. Nobody remembers whether you played good football or not. What matters is the three points on offer,”
“The Super Eagles must not give room for complacency. It’s going to be 50/50 and it’s not going to be an easy game for the team. We must not allow another upset from a supposedly weaker teams.
“They (Super Eagles players) have to be organized, that will make the job easy for the coaches because the philosophy and methodology has to be the same.” he stated.
The Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria 2023 AFCON qualifier will take place at a neutral venue due to the home teams failure to present a CAF standard fit facility.
As an alternative, the Samuel Kanyon Doe stadium, in Liberia will play host to the game, an additional advantage for the Eagles who are poised to book a ticket to the 2023 AFCON.
