Gary Lineker Praises Alex Iwobi’s Great Season at Fulham
Former England striker Gary Lineker has praised Alex Iwobi for his excellent performances at Fulham this season.
Iwobi, 28, has become an important player for Fulham as the team enjoys one of its best starts in recent years. The Nigerian midfielder has already scored five goals, matching his best Premier League goal record, with almost half the season still to play. He has also provided three assists, helping Fulham in their quest to qualify for European competitions.
Fulham is currently in eighth place in the Premier League, just three points away from a Europa League spot. This is a big improvement for the team, which has not finished higher than 10th since the 2011-12 season.
Gary Lineker, speaking on his podcast The Rest is Football, praised Iwobi’s performance. He said, “Iwobi has had a terrific season. He’s been around the Premier League for a while.
Iwobi’s success at Fulham is impressive, especially because he struggled to find consistency earlier in his career. He was seen as a hit-or-miss player during his time at Everton, but his game has improved under Fulham manager Marco Silva. Interestingly, Silva was the one who brought Iwobi to Everton in 2019 with a £28 million transfer from Arsenal.
At Everton, Iwobi had some good moments but wasn’t always consistent. However, his move to Fulham has helped him become more confident and steady in his performances.
When Iwobi returned to Everton in October, he scored a great goal in a 1-1 draw but chose not to celebrate out of respect for his old club.
