Geovanni Stroppa hails Crotone’s hat-trick hero Simy Nwankwo
Geovanni Stroppa the coach of Serie A hopeful FC Crotone has hailed Nigeria’s Simy Nwankwo whose three goals settled the tied against Benevento on Friday.
Simy Nwankwo scored all three goals for his 16 league goals of the season to give Crotone a well deserved 3-0 win against league leaders Benevento on a Serie B clash at the Stadio Ezio Scida (Crotone).
The lanky Nigerian was unplayable for Filipo Inzaghi tutored side and his effort helping Crotone end their three games without a win was duly recognised by his manager.
“I think he could count this so much as a test, given his physicality, he probably did more for the team than others,” Stroppa said after the match.
“In this game, beyond the goals, he put in place an important performance in both halves, both in the offensive and in the defensive. I believe that in general, the whole team worked very well and the result repays us for the work done.”
The win consolidated Crotone’s place in the Serie B second spot as the continue to chase promotion into Serie A.
They are 21 points behind Filipo Inzaghi’s Benevento but 3 points ahead of their closest rivals Cittadella.
