Euro 2024

Germany kicks off Euro 2024 with a dominant 5-1 victory over Scotland

Euro 2024 started with a bang as hosts Germany thrashed Scotland 5-1 in Munich. Wirtz, Musiala, Havertz, Fullkrug and Emre Can bagged the goals for Julian Nagelsmann’s team on Friday night.

Florian Wirtz opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a mistake by Scotland’s goalkeeper, Angus Gunn.

Jamal Musiala doubled Germany’s lead following a brilliant setup by Kai Havertz. Just before halftime, Havertz made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after a rough challenge by Ryan Porteous, who was shown a straight red card.

Niclas Fullkrug added to the tally with a stunning shot into the top left corner, making it 4-0. An own goal by Antonio Rudiger gave Scotland a consolation, but Emre Can sealed the win for Germany with a late goal, wrapping up the game at 5-1.

Germany’s lineup included Neuer, Rudiger, Tah, Kimmich, Havertz, Kroos, Musiala, Wirtz, Mittelstadt, Gundogan, and Andrich. Scotland’s team featured Gunn, Hendry, Ralston, Porteous, Tierney, Robertson, McGregor, McTominay, McGinn, Christie, and Adams.

Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, enjoyed a perfect start and will look to continue the momentum in their next match against Hungary. A win in that game could secure their advancement to the next round, allowing them to rest key players.

Toni Kroos, who controlled the midfield and is set to retire after this tournament, could play a crucial role in Germany’s success. His performance against Scotland highlighted his importance to the team’s ambitions in Euro 2024.
