Getafe to Miss Nigerian Midfielder Uche for Real Madrid Clash

Getafe manager José Bordalás has confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche will miss their La Liga match against Real Madrid on Wednesday due to suspension.

Uche, who has been one of Getafe’s top players this season, received a red card in their 1-0 defeat to Espanyol last weekend. It was his second sending-off of the season.

Speaking ahead of the match, Bordalás said the team must stay focused despite missing some key players.

“We’re without Nyom, Diego Rico and Uche because of suspension. But we’re not focusing on who is missing — we’re focusing on the players we have,” he said during his pre-match press conference, as reported by Marca.

“We need to play at our very best — 110%. Real Madrid are a top team, full of quality players who can win a match at any moment.”

Uche joined Getafe last summer from third-tier club Ceuta for €500,000, and has since become a regular in the starting eleven.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has played in 30 league matches, more than anyone else in the squad apart from Juan Iglesias. He has provided five assists and scored three goals in 2,245 minutes of play.

Despite Uche’s importance, Bordalás refused to reveal who would replace him:

“Of course, missing a player like Uche is not ideal, but this is not the time to complain. I already know who will come in,” he added.

The match was moved forward due to Real Madrid’s involvement in the Copa del Rey final. Madrid are still chasing La Liga leaders Barcelona, trailing them by four points with six matches to go.

Getafe sit 12th in the table with 39 points, five behind 7th-placed Mallorca, who currently hold the last European qualification spot. Getafe are hoping to break their poor run against Madrid, having lost the last six meetings with an aggregate score of 10-1 since April 2022.

Uche made an impressive La Liga debut in August, scoring against Athletic Club, and has started 27 matches so far. His last goal came in a 2-1 win over Girona in February.
