Ghanaian man abandons 168-hour standing World record attempt after 4-hours
Patrick Amenuvor of Ghana has called off his ambitious 168-hour solo standing marathon, known as a Stand-a-thon, aimed at breaking the Guinness World Record.
The marathon, which commenced on Sunday, January 14, 2024, was originally planned to conclude on the 21st of January but was prematurely terminated after only four hours. Patrick’s goal was to stand continuously for seven days.
The current Guinness World Record for the longest standing time is held by Akshinthala Seshu Babu from India, who maintained Mahatma Gandhi’s position for 25:01 hours in 2001, 35 hours in 2002, and made a 37-hour attempt in 2015.
Patrick’s management released a statement explaining the reasons behind the abrupt cessation of the stand-a-thon. The statement cited unforeseen electrical outages and technical complications during the specified period as the primary factors leading to the decision.
The statement reads, “We regret to inform you that the continuation of the Stand-A-Thon has encountered insurmountable challenges, necessitating an official halt.” It further explains, “In adherence to the principles of integrity and fair play, we hereby disclose our intention to cease the OFFICIAL STAND-A-THON attempt. This decision stems from the acknowledgment of rule violations that could compromise the pursuit of breaking the record.”
The management expressed the need for a comprehensive review to rectify oversights and prevent future errors that may hinder subsequent attempts.
Despite the premature end to the record-breaking endeavor, Patrick’s management extended sincere gratitude to all those who supported the undertaking.
