Gift Monday nets brace as Tenerife defeat Ajibade’s Atleti
Okoronkwo, Babajide feature in league win
Super Falcons forward Gift Monday scored twice for UDG Tenerife as they defeated Atletico Madrid Femeni 2-1 in their Spanish league clash.
Tenerife started the encounter with Monday on the flank and fellow Super Falcons Esther Okoronkwo up top, while Rinsola Babajide was left on the bench. For their opponents, Rasheedat Ajibade started from the bench after her injury scare against Ethiopia with the national team.
After a scrappy opening period, Monday opened the scoring for her side at home in the 54th minute, before adding a second only two minutes later.
Ajibade came off the bench for Atletico Madrid and laid an assist for Lucia Moral to pull one back in the 61st minute.
Atletico Madrid remain in fifth place, two places and one point above Tenerife, who have 12 points this season.
