Gift Orban back in Lyon training after Trabzonspor transfer collapses
Nigerian forward Gift Orban resumed training with Olympique Lyon on Friday after a proposed transfer to Turkish side Trabzonspor fell through.
The deal, which was expected to see Orban move to Turkey, collapsed on Thursday morning after Trabzonspor failed to meet Lyon’s €12 million asking price, as reported by RMC Sport.
Trabzonspor, who had previously targeted Southampton striker Paul Onuachu, also pulled out of negotiations after Southampton held firm on their €15 million valuation of the Nigerian international.
Orban, 21, joined Lyon in January from Belgian club Gent but has struggled for regular playing time in France. With competition for a starting spot fierce, he will now have to continue battling seasoned forward Alexandre Lacazette and new signing Georges Mikautadze for a place in the Lyon first team.
Despite his limited minutes on the pitch, Orban remains contracted to Lyon until 2028, giving him time to establish himself at the French club. For now, the young Nigerian will focus on proving his worth in training and pushing for more opportunities in the Ligue 1 side’s upcoming matches.
