Gift Orban scores as Lyon reach Coupe de France Final

Nigerian striker Gift Orban came off the bench to score in a thrilling Coupe de France encounter as Lyon dashed Valenciennes’ fairy-tale run, securing a spot in the final with a commanding 3-0 victory.

In the semi-final clash against Valenciennes, Lyon entered the fray with aspirations of extending their cup journey, while their opponents aimed to create history with an upset.

The match took a decisive turn in Lyon’s favor early in the second half, as captain Lacazette stepped up to convert a 51st minute penalty-kick, to put his side in the lead. Buoyed by their advantage, Lyon continued to press forward, with Lacazette netting another goal to further solidify their dominance.

However, the defining moment arrived when Gift Orban, introduced as a substitute for Lacazette, left an indelible mark on the game. Just three minutes after entering the pitch, Orban showcased his predatory instincts by finding the back of the net, effectively sealing Lyon’s passage to the Coupe de France final.

Orban’s timely contribution not only underscored Lyon’s depth but also highlighted the impact of astute squad management by manager Ernest Nuamah. Since his January arrival, Orban’s goal marked his second for Lyon, further cementing his value to the team.

Despite missing a late opportunity to add to their tally, Lyon emerged victorious with a commanding 3-0 win, confirming their superiority over Valenciennes and booking their place in the Coupe de France final.

As Lyon sets their sights on the final showdown, Orban’s heroics serve as a testament to the team’s determination and ambition to lift the Coupe de France title.
