Goalkeeper Jan de Boer gets Four Trays of Eggs for Man of the Match Award In Norway
Norwegian club Bryne FK – where Manchester City star Erling Haaland began his career – has taken a unique approach by giving eggs to their Man of the Match Jan de Boer .
Bryne FK, based in south-west Norway near Stavanger, returned to the top division this season after being promoted for the first time since 2003.
In their first match back in the top league on Sunday, they lost 1-0 to Europa League quarter-finalists Bodo/Glimt.
Despite the defeat, their goalkeeper Jan de Boer put in a fantastic performance, making several great saves, including a second-half penalty stop.
His reward? Four trays of eggs.
The unusual prize reflects the club’s strong ties to local farming, which is mainly focused on meat and dairy production.
Bryne FK’s fans are proud of their agricultural roots, often chanting: “We are farmers and we are proud of it” during matches. The club even offers special ‘VIP’ tickets where fans can watch games from a tractor beside the pitch.
Next week, however, Bryne players will not be competing for eggs. Instead, the man of the match in their game against Kristiansund on 6 April will receive cartons of local milk.
