Goals galore in NPFL as Nasarawa United defeat Abia Warriors in 8-goal thriller
Kwara United win to stay on top, Warri Wolves snap winless run
Nasarawa United played out a 5-3 home win against visiting Abia Warriors at the Lafia Township Stadium, ending the visitors’ 8 game unbeaten run. Ikenna Offor opened the scoring for the Solid Miners before Fatai Abdullahi equalised for Abia Warriors. Silas Nwankwo scored to make it 2-1 and Godwin Obaje drew the Umuahia Landlords level again as the teams went in for the first half. Silas Nwankwo scored immediately after the restart, before Chinedu Ohanachom added another to make it 4-2. Fatai Abdullahi scored again to make it 4-3 before Nwankwo completed his hattrick, making the game 5-3.
Kwara United picked up a 2-1 away win at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium against Katsina United to consolidate top spot in the NPFL. Afeez Nasiru opened the scoring for the Harmony Boys with a direct free kick in the 4th minute, before Joseph Atule equalised for Katsina United. It took a 96th minute strike from Michael Ohanu to settle the tie and keep Kwara United on top of the table.
Rivers United successfully maintained their 100% home record with a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars. Godwin Aguda scored the lone goal that takes Rivers United to within four points of the top of the table. Sunshine Stars are winless in 11 games and down in the relegation zone.
Plateau United picked up an important 2-1 win against Rangers. Oche Ochowechi opened the scoring for Plateau United, before Godspower Aniefiok equalised for Rangers less than a minute later. Daniel Itodo scored the winning goal for Plateau United to give them all three points.
Akwa United defeated Lobi Stars 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Ikechukwu Nwani opened the scoring for the Promise Keepers before veteran striker, Mfon Udoh made it two for the home side. Udoh scored again to give Akwa United a 3-0 win. Akwa United are now unbeaten in 7 games in the league.
Warri Wolves picked up a welcome 3-1 win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Ozoro Poly Stadium. Uche Ihuarulam opened the scoring for the home side from the spot after just five minutes, before further goals from Jackson Eru and Emeka Uzor made it 3-0 to the Seasiders. Christian Molokwu scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.
Kano Pillars came from behind to win 2-1 at home against Heartland at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Chidera Eze put the visitors ahead with a fierce drive from the edge of the box. Mercurial midfielder and captain, Rabiu Ali scored from the spot to draw Sai Masu Gida level in the game, before David Ebuka scored the winning goal with the last kick of the game from the penalty spot for Kano Pillars.
Adamawa United and Wikki Tourists played out a drab goalless draw at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
