Governor rewards Ibom Angels with ₦20 Million and new bus for securing NWFL promotion

The Akwa Ibom State Government has rewarded Ibom Angels Football Club with ₦20 million and a brand new coaster bus following their promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Governor Umo Eno made the announcement on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, praising the team for their remarkable achievement in securing a spot in Nigeria’s top-flight women’s football. The gesture comes after Ibom Angels, under the guidance of Coach Edwin Okon, triumphed over Osun Babes 2-0 in the NWFL Championship promotion playoffs at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, In an earlier welcome home celebratory reception held at the Uyo Township Stadium on Monday, Governor Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Youths Development and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, has expressed immense pride in the team’s performance. He described Ibom Angels as “shining ambassadors” of the state’s ARISE agenda, which focuses on youth empowerment and development.

“The state government is fully committed to supporting youth development programs aimed at making our young people self-reliant, resourceful, and productive,” Uko had stated during the ceremony. He also emphasised that the reward reflects the government’s dedication to nurturing sporting talents and promoting excellence.

Ibom Angels’ victory over Osun Babes earned them one of the two coveted promotion spots to the NWFL, marking their return to the top division of Nigerian women’s football. Governor Eno’s administration is keen on supporting the team as they prepare for their next challenge in the elite league hence the donation of a brand new bus to the team.
