Guardiola has spent over €1.307b euros on transfer including €3.8m on Olarenwaju
Joao Cancelo’s 65 million euro move to Manchester City in the summer took Pep Guardiola’s spending as a coach to 1.307.9 billion euros in just 11 seasons on the benches of Europe’s elite sides.
The huge sum is split into 59 different signings, though there are others – notably Robert Lewandowski – who aren’t included due to them being free transfers.
A deeper dive into the breakdown of his spending provides for interesting reading and he’s spent more on defenders than on any other position, accumulating 513.1 million euros.
Cancelo is now the most expensive full-back in football, but Pep also splashed 65 million euros on Aymeric Laporte, 57.5 million euros on Benjamin Mendy and 55.6 million euros on John Stones.
The City boss has put 385.5 million euros down on forwards, 326.6 million euros on midfielders and 77.6 million euros on goalkeepers. As far as names are concerned, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (69.5 million euros), Rodrigo Hernandez (70 million euros) and Ederson (40 million euros) are the most expensive striker, midfielder and goalkeeper’s that he’s signed.
It’s at City where he’s spent the most. Since arriving in 2016 he’s spent more than twice what he did at either Bayern Munich or Barcelona. City’s spend in his time is 762.3 million euros, Barcelona’s was 341.5 million euros and Bayern’s 204.1 million euros.
In terms of seasonal spending, 2016/17 was the year in which the most money was invested: 305.5 million euros.
