Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola became the fastest manager in English top flight history to win 200 games as his Manchester City side defeated West Ham United 2-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Manchester City opened the scoring on the half hour mark through Portuguese defender, Ruben Dias who headed home a sumptuous delivery from Kevin De Bruyne, before West Ham equalised through Michail Antonio just before halftime. It took a 68th minute effort from center back, John Stones to secure all three points for the Citizens.
City’s current 20 game winning run is only 3 behind the record held by Bayern Munich who won 23 in a row, and it started with a 1-0 victory over Southampton on December 19 and has spanned across all four major competitions they are in contention for. In that time, they have conceded only 7 goals and scored a remarkable 51 goals. When asked after his midweek Champions League defeat of Borussia Monchengladbach about the driving force behind his side’s success, he responded that his side had so much money to buy the best players and that made it possible to keep on winning.
Guardiola’s men have won all 17 of their matches in 2021 so far, and he has won 200 of his 273 games in charge of Manchester City as he looks set to win his third Premier League title in charge of the side. It was also his 500th win in charge of a top flight side.
