Haaland, Sancho fire Borussia Dortmund to DFB Pokal glory

Julian Nagelsmann misses final opportunity to claim silverware with Leipzig

Borussia Dortmund youngsters Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland scored two apiece as Borussia Dortmund strolled to a comfortable 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig as they picked up the DFB Pokal in style.

Marking his return to full fitness, Haaland was given the nod to start in attack for Dortmund in the game. 21 year old English winger, Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for Dortmund after he converted a pass from Mahmoud Dahoud just five minutes into the game before Haaland doubled their advantage in the 28th minute. Sancho added a third following a quick counter attack on the stroke of half-time. Spanish midfielder, Dani Olmo pulled one back for Leipzig in the 71st minute before Haaland scored with three minutes of the game remaining to restore his side’s three goal cushion as they held on to win the German Cup title.

For interim manager, Edin Terzic, this, coupled with UEFA Champions League qualification would make his stint in charge of Borussia Dortmund a success. On the other hand, RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann will be moving to Bayern Munich next season and thus missed out on a great opportunity to win silverware with RB Leipzig.
