Handing Over: Akwa United Congratulate New NPFL Champions Rivers United

The chairman, management, staff and players of 2021 Nigeria Professional Football League Champions Akwa United have congratulated Rivers United for emerging 2022 NPFL champions.
Chairman of Akwa United in a message of felicitation to the new champions, described Rivers United as worthy champions who achieve their success through hard work and determination.
“On behalf of Akwa United Football Club, we wish to congratulate Rivers United Football Club for winning the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League title even with three matches before the official end of the season.
“There is no doubt that Rivers United have been the in-form team throughout the season with some great results. With such consistent performances throughout the season, I must say that the Pride of Rivers are worthy champions of Nigeria this season and they truly deserve the crown.
“We know that winning the league comes with a big responsibility of representing the country at the continental level. We wish Rivers United a successful outing in next year’s CAF Champions League competition”.
Rivers United were confirmed NPFL champions on Saturday following Akwa United’s 2-1 victory over second placed Plateau United who are 10 points behind the Pride of Rivers with three games before the end of the season.
