Harry Kane joins Bayern Munich from Tottenham

English striker completes big-money Bundesliga switch

Tottenham Hotspur great Harry Kane has completed a move from the English club to perennial German champions Bayern Munich for around €120m, signing a four-year contract until 2027.

Bayern Munich have been without a top-level centre-forward since losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer, and they struggled last season, as a result. The club identified this problem and decided to pursue a deal for a new striker this summer, with Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani sounded out. They decided to focus on Kane, a more experienced and complete player.

The German champions have paid €100m in guaranteed fees plus €20m in add-ons to sign the 30-year-old striker, who leaves Tottenham after 19 years at the club.

Kane leaves Tottenham a legend, having scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for the club to be their all-time record goalscorer. He won the Premier League golden boot in 2016, 2017 and 2021, and has the second most goals in the history of the competition behind only Alan Shearer. The striker has 58 goals for England and is their all-time record goalscorer, as well.

Bayern Munich will afford Kane the opportunity to win silverware, something that has been conspicuously missing from his career so far. He may make his debut in the DFL Supercup against RB Leipzig on Sunday, with a trophy on the line in the game.
