Harry Maguire vows to fight for place at Manchester United
Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has affirmed his commitment to the club, expressing his determination to be part of the team’s future and help restore its success.
The 31-year-old defender, who missed significant portions of last season due to injury, remains optimistic about his role in the upcoming campaign.
Maguire’s recent period has been marked by challenges, including speculation about his future and a serious injury that kept him out of both the FA Cup final and Euro 2024. Despite these setbacks, he has vowed to fight for his place and contribute to Manchester United’s quest for trophies.
“It was a real tough moment in my career. It was probably the toughest moment in my career to date,” Maguire told Sky Sports. He reflected on the disappointment of being sidelined during crucial matches, saying, “To get myself into a position where all year I’ve worked hard to play at the end of the season and to play in these big games, cup finals and then to go to the Euros and try to win the tournament for my country. I felt like I got myself in a great position physically and mentally to go and perform at the highest level, and to face the setback I did with the injury, it was a real tough moment for me.”
Despite the difficulties, Maguire remains determined to prove his worth. “Unless the club tell me I’m up for sale or I’m not wanted there anymore, everything I’ve heard and the action I’ve been shown from the club, I’m part of the future and it is time to crack on and make this club successful again, challenging for the big trophies. That’s what this club demands,” he stated.
Maguire featured in 22 Premier League games last season for a Manchester United side plagued by injuries and inconsistency under manager Erik Ten Hag. As the new season approaches, he is ready to fight for his place in the squad and support the team’s ambitions.
Maguire is currently with Manchester United on their tour of the United States, where they will face Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool, before competing against Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10. The Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford is scheduled for August 16.
