Haugesund 3 Start 1: Babajide’s 9th league goal of the season condems Akinyemi, Aremu to relegation

Nigerian midfielder Babajide Akintola David scored the goal that sent two Nigerian players in the opposition team back to relegation in the Norwegian top flight league.

A win for Afeez Aremu and Adeleke Akinyem’s IK Start would have prevented them from relegation but Babajide David spearheaded Haugesund’s 3-1 come back win on Saturday to send them back to the lower league.

Adeleke Akinyemi who started the game for IK Start as the lone striker put his side in front in the 12th minute and at half time his strike was the only difference between the two sides.

As at 58th minute of the clash, Afeez Aremu and Adeleke Akinyemi were sure of their safety as the results involving the othee relegation battlers were in their favour.

But Babajide David who was starting his 30th league game of the season popped up to score his 9th league goal of the season to ignite the late run.

Just 8th minutes after his strike, Ibrahima Wadji put the home team in front with a powerful strike in the 68th minute. Ibrahim Wadji then completed his brace and the remarkable turn around win with his 77th minite strike.

Afeez Aremu was introduced late in the game, while Adeleke Akinyemi was subbed off for IK Start.

Babajide David was on the pitch for the entire match, the 22-year-old midfielder played in all the league games for Haugesund as they finished 4th on the log.
