Heartbreak for Spurs as Victor Wembanyama is ruled out of the season
The San Antonio Spurs have announced that Victor Wembanyama will miss the rest of the NBA season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder.
The team said in a statement that the condition was discovered when Wembanyama returned to San Antonio after the All-Star Game in San Francisco.
Wembanyama, who is 21 years old, has been one of the league’s top players this season, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game. The Spurs currently have a record of 23 wins and 29 losses, ranking 12th in the Western Conference.
The Frenchman, who was the number one pick in the 2023 NBA draft, has been compared to LeBron James as one of the best basketball talents in recent years. Last season, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, 1.8 three-pointers, and 1.2 steals per game.
Wembanyama also became the first player to record at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 three-pointers in a season.
