Henry Onyekuru involved as Galatasaray avoid Turkish Cup upset
Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru was involved as Galatasaray went down 4-2 to lower league side Hatayspor at Hatay Atatürk stadium in their Turkish Cup second leg clash on Wednesday.
It would have been another upset just as Umraniyespor shocked Trabzonspor last night by recording an aggregate 3-1 win to send Anthony Nwakaeme’s and his teammates out in the last eight.
But Galatasaray avoided the upset thanks to their 2-0 win in the first leg resulting into a 4-4 aggregate win and a place in the last four.
Galatasaray who had most of their first-team players rested for the clash went ahead in the 21st minute through Mugdat Celik. It became two in the 53rd minute through Emre Akbaba’s strike.
It all looked sorted out with 4 goals to good both home and away for Galatasaray but, the hosts struck back in the 59th minute through Gokhan Karadeniz from the spot. Gokhan Karadeniz scored another penalty in the 71st minute to level the scoreline on the night.
With the pressure mounting on Galatasaray, Henry Onyekuru was subbed on for 76th-minute for Mugdat Celik. His introduction failed to inspire his side as Hatayspor scored the third through Mirkan Aydin in the 79th minute.
They got the fourth thanks to an own goal from Ismail Cipe.
It was just about it as Galatasaray hung on to secure their place in the semifinal after an aggregate score of 4-4.
