How Cancer is Rattling the Career of La Liga Star Kirian Rodriguez
Set to miss rest of the season.
Las Palmas captain Kirian Rodriguez has revealed that he has suffered a relapse of cancer and will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season to undergo chemotherapy.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who had to pause his career during the 2022-23 season due to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, shared the news on Las Palmas’ YouTube channel on Thursday.
“Yesterday, they told me I have had a cancer relapse. I have to stop for another six months and go through more chemotherapy to fight against the disease,” Rodriguez explained.
He added, “I hope to be able to return in the 2025-26 season because I’m 100% convinced that the club, players, and staff will still be in the top flight.”
Rodriguez had made 21 appearances for Las Palmas this season, helping them sit 15th in La Liga, just two points above the relegation zone.
Despite his personal challenge, Rodriguez requested that his teammates focus on their upcoming match against Villarreal, choosing to announce the news alone. He thanked his teammates and staff for their support during this difficult time.
