How much will Edo Queens Women earn for 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League participation?

Edo Queens are poised to secure a substantial financial boost, with guaranteed earnings of at least 251,427,000 Naira (approximately $625,000) for their participation in the upcoming 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

Under the guidance of head coach Moses Aduku, the team clinched their spot in the tournament following a commanding 3-0 victory against Ainonvi FC from Benin during the WAFU B qualifiers held in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire.

Leading the offense was the remarkable Emem Essien, who not only scored in the final match but also finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals to her name.

Now that they have secured their place in this esteemed competition, the Edo Queens, along with seven other participating teams, stand to benefit from a newly enhanced prize structure introduced by CAF.

The total prize pool for this year has been increased by 52%, reaching $2.35 million, reflecting CAF’s commitment to advancing women’s football across Africa.

Should Edo Queens progress further in the tournament, their potential earnings could significantly grow. The champion team will receive $300,000, while the runners-up will earn $200,000.

Teams finishing in third and fourth place will receive $150,000 and $100,000, respectively. Furthermore, teams finishing third in the group stage will claim $50,000 each, and fourth-place teams will take home $25,000.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has reiterated the organization’s dedication to elevating women’s football on the continent, with plans to continually increase prize money and invest in youth academies to nurture the next generation of talent.
