‘Hunger’ – Ghana coach reveals why Nigeria defeated his team

Ghana’s Black Galaxies head coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, has admitted that the Super Eagles B displayed greater hunger and determination during their 3-1 victory over his team in the CHAN qualifiers.

The win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium secured Nigeria’s place in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), ending their six-year absence from the tournament.

Nigeria’s Dominant Performance
Remo Stars’ Sodiq Ismaila opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 18th minute, followed by quick goals from Junior Nduka and Saviour Isaac.

Ghana managed a consolation goal through Stephen Amankona in the 74th minute, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Coach Dramani Reflects on the Loss
Speaking after the match, Dramani acknowledged Nigeria’s superior drive as the decisive factor in the game.

“Every coach feels disappointed after a loss, but the result speaks for itself,” Dramani said. “Nigeria showed much more hunger and energy. We made some costly mistakes that proved disastrous for us.”

He added, “After conceding the first goal, the second and third goals drained our team’s strength and morale. Nigeria’s hunger to win was evident, especially in the first half.”

A Setback for Ghana
This defeat marks another disappointment for Ghana, who have also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While the Super Eagles B celebrate their return to CHAN, the Black Galaxies face the challenge of rebuilding after this setback.
