‘I am embarassed for him’ – Former Chelsea star reacts to Erik ten Hag’s recent comments
Former Chelsea player Craig Burley has criticized Erik ten Hag, the current manager of Manchester United, for believing he is the best person to lead the team.
There was speculation that Ten Hag would be dismissed after the FA Cup final, with the club reportedly considering other candidates such as Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, and Roberto De Zerbi.
However, Manchester United decided to keep Ten Hag for the final year of his contract and may even offer him a new deal.
Speaking on Dutch TV during Euro 2024, Ten Hag explained the situation: “It was a turbulent season, but it is never a dull moment in Manchester.
” Last week, they suddenly came to me and said they wanted to continue. They evaluated things, spoke with multiple candidates, but concluded they already had the best manager. We had good conversations in Ibiza and decided to extend the contract, but we still need to finalize some details.”
Burley, a former Scotland international, mocked Ten Hag’s pride in himself on ESPN, questioning how Ten Hag could respect himself knowing that the club had publicly considered other replacements.
“They have touted themselves around everybody, and now he is coming out with more nonsense. I’m actually embarrassed for him,” said Burley
