” I missed Football so much” – Home based Super Eagles Left back Imo Obot reveals

- bares his mind about his 6 months spell on the treatment table and the Joy of playing football again.

Home based Super Eagles and Enyimba International Fc of Aba Left back Imo Obot has bared his mind in an exclusive chat with Sportsration.com on how much he missed football during his 6 months on the treatment table , his joy of retuning to action plus his expectations for the season.

WHEN DID YOU SUSTAIN THE INJURY ?

IMO OBOT : It was against Dakkada Fc in August 2021. The last Match of the 2020/2021 NPFL season in Uyo . We really needed to win that game to qualify for the Continent.

IMMEDIATE REACTION ?

IMO OBOT : I was very very sad when I was informed at the hospital that I will be out for up to 6/7 months. I was very disturbed because we had made the continent and the team was preparing at Omoku while I had to return home. There were times I sat and asked myself why this type of injury will happen to me.

During this times , I will feel very sad. When I think for a while, I will tap myself and then leave everything to God. It wasn’t easy.

WHAT EMOTIONAL SUPPORT OR BACKING DURING THAT TRYING TIME ?

IMO OBOT : It wasn’t easy. On my part , I supported myself with constant prayer for healing plus thoughts that I was young and still had a long career ahead. My family was there for me , they advised me not to be worried about the present condition.

My friends visited from time to time. I had POP on my legs so I sat in one spot at home. So whenever my friends visited I will be happy in their company. My teammates were always on phone encouraging me that I will soon be back.

My fans kept sending their well wishes. They missed me and wanted me back on the pitch. I must acknowledge the efforts of our Captain who was always keeping tabs of how I was faring. In lonely moments, I played music or watched movies on my phone. Despite all this, the human factor was still visible as I wasn’t comfortable with my condition.

HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT RETURNING TO ACTION AFTER THE MONTHS OUT

IMO OBOT : I missed football so much so I was very happy to see myself being able to kick a ball again. Immediately I kicked the first ball I said “Thank you Jesus” . It was a great feeling as I remembered the days when running was impossible due to pains on the knee.

Coincidentally, I got injured against a team from my state Dakkada Fc and returned to action vs another one Akwa United when we defeated them in Aba. Since returning I’ve been playing with everything because I missed this game so much. It’s a great feeling doing the things I love doing again.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SEASON WITH ENYIMBA INTERNATIONAL

IMO OBOT : Now that I am fully fit, I hope to give my best to help the team win the league. We have a very talented team capable of going all the way to win the league. I want the title and I’m sure the club wants it as well.

DO YOU EXPECT TO BE IN THE HOME BASED SUPER EAGLES TEAM FOR CHAN ?

IMO OBOT : Yes, I am looking forward to getting the opportunity to defend the colours of my country. It’s always a pleasure representing my country and doing my best to help the team.

MESSAGE TO YOUR TEEMING FANS

IMO OBOT : I must appreciate my fans for the immesurable care and concern I got when I was injured. A lot of them kept calling and telling me how much they wanted me back in action.

They were so happy to see me back in action. I really appreciate the love. I can only show appreciation by putting up my best performances everytime I am on the turf to put smile on their faces.
