” I no be Iwobi ” – Sadiq Umar issues stern warning to cyber-bullies

Nigerian Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has issued a stern warning to cyberbullies, asserting that he will not tolerate attacks on his character.

Amid widespread online harassment at his teammate Alex Iwobi, Sadiq has declared his readiness to retaliate if faced with a similar situation, emphasizing his resilience as a typical Hausa boy.

The backlash against Sadiq and Iwobi stems from Nigeria’s defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). While Iwobi bore the brunt of cyberbullying following the loss, Sadiq found himself targeted despite not featuring in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 campaign.

In response to the online abuse, Sadiq took to his Instagram account to defend himself and issue a bold warning to his detractors. He distanced himself from his teammate Iwobi, making it clear that he would not hesitate to respond forcefully to insults directed at him.

“I no even play you con dey insult me,” Sadiq wrote on his Instagram story. “Abeg oo Me I no be iwobi I go Insult person papa with him mama join. Yes I be dat topical Hausa boy Abi u see fear for my eyes?”

Sadiq’s assertive post reflects his refusal to passively endure criticism, as he condemned those responsible for cyberbullying. He admonished them for their actions, highlighting the hypocrisy of pushing others into depression while seeking a better life for themselves.

Despite the possibility that his remarks were made in the heat of the moment, Sadiq’s uncompromising stance underscores his determination to confront online abusers head-on. His words offer a glimpse into his personality, demonstrating a willingness to fight back against injustice, in stark contrast to the restraint shown by his teammate Iwobi.

While Sadiq’s participation in the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2023 journey was cut short due to injury, his resilience in the face of online harassment underscores his unwavering commitment to defending his honor and integrity.
