Iga Swiatek Eases into Last 16 at Madrid Open
World number two Iga Swiatek made it eight wins in a row at the Madrid Open after beating Linda Noskova to reach the last 16.
The defending champion and last year’s finalist, who is still looking for her first title of the year, won 6-4 6-2 against the Czech player who had beaten her at the 2024 Australian Open.
The 23-year-old from Poland had to work hard to beat teenager Alexandra Eala from the Philippines in the previous round.
But this time, she looked much more comfortable and finished the match in just one hour and 17 minutes.
Next, she will face 13th seed Diana Shnaider from Russia, who did not lose a single game in her match against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.
Meanwhile, American stars Coco Gauff and Madison Keys also made it through to the last 16 with straight-set wins.
Fourth seed Gauff beat fellow American Ann Li 6-2 6-3, while fifth seed Keys overcame Russia’s 30th seed Anna Kalinskaya 7-5 7-6 (7-3).
