Igbokwe Makes Super Falcons Starting Debut Against Comoros

Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named Joy Igbokwe in the Super Falcons’ starting line-up for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Comoros on Friday.
The Nasarawa Amazons midfielder will make her first senior international start as Nigeria begin their quest to qualify for the women’s football event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie will lead the team’s defence, alongside Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo, Michelle Alozie and Glory Ogbonna.
Igbokwe will play in midfield alongside Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, while Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday and captain Rasheedat Ajibade will lead the attack.
Eguavoen has retained several experienced players who featured regularly for the Super Falcons, including those who played at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
However, Igbokwe’s inclusion is a major highlight, as the young midfielder gets the chance to prove herself at senior international level.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the African qualifiers, while Comoros reached this stage after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
Although Comoros are the home team for Friday’s first leg, the match will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because the island nation does not have a Confederation of African Football-approved venue for the fixture.
The return leg will also be played at the same stadium on October 13, meaning both matches will take place in Nigeria.
The Super Falcons will aim to secure a positive result in the first leg before the return fixture as they pursue one of Africa’s two available places at the 2028 Olympic women’s football tournament.
