Igoh Ogbu Praises Super Eagles After AFCON 2025 Bronze

Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has spoken after Nigeria’s win over Egypt in the third-place match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a victory that earned the team the bronze medal.
The Slavia Prague defender played as Nigeria ended the tournament unbeaten in normal and extra time. The Super Eagles recorded five wins and two draws in seven matches.
After the game, Ogbu shared his thoughts on the team and his experience at the tournament. He praised the players and the strong bond within the squad.
“I think the team is amazing. I love this team. I think this is one of the best gatherings we’ve ever had in the national team,” Ogbu said.
Although he is new to the Super Eagles, the defender said he felt proud to be part of the group.
“I know I’m new here but for me I’m really proud of this team,” he added.
Winning the bronze medal was a special moment for Ogbu, as it came in his first Africa Cup of Nations appearance with Nigeria. He said family support played an important role in his journey.
“Yes. I’ve seen it. And family has always supported me to be in this position. So, I’m really happy and proud,” he said.
The former Lillestrom player made his AFCON debut earlier in the competition during Nigeria’s group match against Uganda.
Asked how he planned to celebrate the achievement, Ogbu kept it simple.
“I just go relax happy and just eat and be happy,” he said.
Nigeria’s victory over Egypt ensured the Super Eagles finished AFCON 2025 on the podium, with Ogbu ending his first tournament with the national team as a medal winner.
